Dramatic atmospheric changes were documented during past decades and current predictions indicate deepening their impacts on wild plants. Global changes are expected to be most pronounced at high altitudes: thus, mountains of intermediate elevation have been particularly vulnerable.

The Black Grouse (Tetrao tetrix) is a severely endangered species in the Czech Republic and its numbers decreased by 80% during the past 30 years (Fig. 1).

In the Czech Republic, about 250 crevice caves have been registered in geologically diverse bedrock. Cervices often resulted from gravitational movements of rock blocks along tectonic or non-tectonic fissures.

The article aims at management of geographic data on memorial/veteran trees and it provides the basic information on review of and updating the above data.

The number of species threatened with extinction due to human activities has been increasing and it is hardly possible to reverse the trend and to prevent further reduction in all endangered species numbers. It is thus necessary to set clear priorities in species protection and to select species that are necessary to be protected, e.g.through action plans.

In 1910, Ludwig Vašiček, the Czech amateur entomologist and military officer in the Austrian-Hungarian army, found a funny beetle at the Vjeternica Cave (southern Herzegovina). The insect was described as Hadesia vasicekia year later.
