By the Red List of Threatened Species in the Czech Republic (Kučera & Váňa 2005), the epiphytis moss Dicranum viride is considered as Endangered within the country.

The Prachovské skály Rocks (a geomorphological unit within the Jičín Hills) is a typical sandstone rock-pillar formation.

The article aims at management of geographic data on memorial/veteran trees and it provides the basic information on review of and updating the above data.

The number of species threatened with extinction due to human activities has been increasing and it is hardly possible to reverse the trend and to prevent further reduction in all endangered species numbers. It is thus necessary to set clear priorities in species protection and to select species that are necessary to be protected, e.g.through action plans.

In 1910, Ludwig Vašiček, the Czech amateur entomologist and military officer in the Austrian-Hungarian army, found a funny beetle at the Vjeternica Cave (southern Herzegovina). The insect was described as Hadesia vasicekia year later.

For effective threatened species conservation and management, good knowledge of their distribution, population status as well as of external threats is necessary. Live traps are one of the methods which allow gathering such data on water beetles and newts.

The article attempts to demonstrate the importance of data collected from found dead animal carcasses giving the example of Eurasian otters (Lutra lutra). Collecting dead otters and subsequent analyses of the carcasses have started in the Czech Republic at the local level in the 1990s.

In 2000–2004, natural habitat types had been mapped across the whole Czech Republics territory to provide the Natura 2000 site identification with the background data. The process produced a whole-size habitat mapping layer (HML) having been used for fulfilling international duties, but also as an information source on habitat distribution and size for the State/Public Administration authorities, university students as well as for a lot of commercial bodies.

A new scheme of monitoring and research for the next decade is presented for the oldest national park in the Czech Republic – the Krkonoše/Giant Mts. NP situated in NE Bohemia, where the first truly scientific activities started already more than 200 years ago.
