In the Czech Republic, about 250 crevice caves have been registered in geologically diverse bedrock. Cervices often resulted from gravitational movements of rock blocks along tectonic or non-tectonic fissures.
The West Carpathian Flysch Belt with the biggest caves, sandstones and marlites of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin harbouring the highest number of crevice caves, neovolcanites in the České středohoří Mts. or metamorphic rocks in the Znojmo region are among the most important areas in the Czech Republic where crevice caves are located.
