Monitoring a Marsh Gladiolus (Gladiolus palustris) Population in the Bílé Karpaty/White Carpathians

Mečík bahenní (Gladiolus palustris) je vyhláškou 395/1992 Sb. řazen mezi kriticky ohrožené druhy rostlin; Červený a černý seznam cévnatých rostlin ČR jej řadí do kategorie C1 (CR podle IUCN); je zařazen i do celosvětového červeného seznamu (IUCN) a také do přílohy II směrnice o stanovištích.

In 1995, an isolated population of the Marsh Gladiolus (Gladiolus palustris), until then considered probably extinct in the Bílé Karpaty/White Carpathians Mts., was found in a meadow near the village of Hrubá Vrbka, adjacent to the Čertoryje National Nature Reserve. Since that time, the population has been annually monitored. In 1995–2008, 3 to 23 flowering individuals were found there each year. The flowering period lasted from mid-June to early July. The inflorescences consisted of 2–10 flowers, with an average of 4.6 (N = 86). Since 1996, the meadow has been managed by annual mowing.
