Chobot K., Zárybnický J. & Kučera Z.: Nature Conservancy Species Occurrence Finding Data Database –

The Species Occurrence Database, managed by the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic, has been widely used in nature conservation.

At the same time, it is a significant data source on species richness and diversity in the Czech Republic. In 2012, the number of records in the database has reached 10 millions. Species sheets showing the data on the current individual species distribution in grid maps have been made accessible for the public. The sheets also present distribution maps published in the past, e.g. in extensive atlases or in the report on the implementation of European Union’s Directive 92/43/EEC on the Conservation of Natural Habitats and of Wild Fauna and Flora, more commonly known as the Habitats Directive, the latter including assessment of the conservation status of species on the Annexes to the Directive. In the selected species, they offer photos, description texts respectively. In addition to the species sheets, taxonomic checklists, on which the database is based and which are connected to the Red Lists and Specially Protected Species Lists can also be freely accessed by anyone.
