Assessment reports are a document assessing the conservation status in species and types of natural habitats of the European Union interest, i.e. those listed in Annex and Annex I to the European Unions Habitats Directive every six years.
Pursuant to the Habitats Directive, the reports artre compulsory for the EU Member States and are one of the most important outputs from monitoring the habitat and species conservation status. The Czech Republic reported for the first time in 2007, thus the 2014 was its second term. The Czech Republic submitted the report to the European Commission as one of the first Member States. Thus, the results of extensive national-wide gathering the data on species and habitat distribution and conservation status become a part of the so-called Article 17 database, one of the most extensive data sources on species richness and diversity at the European level. Article 17 requires Member States to report about the progress made with the implementation of the Habitats Directive.
