Research in the Šumava/Bohemian Forest National Park

autorka: Zdenka Křenová

Monitoring and documenting long-term trends in nature's components is a clear priority in research in the Šumava/Bohemian Forest National Park.

The research itself has been co-ordinated by the Šumava/Bohemian Forest National Park Administration and the long-term basal monitoring, covering forests, peat bogs, forestless areas, hydrosphere and animal communities, has been guaranteed by the NP and Protected Landscape Area Administration technical/expert staff members. External research teams contribute particularly to partial and finite projects. In addition, inventories and surveillances are permanently carried out there. The long-term peat-bog monitoring is among the most significant activities. Since 2008, the monitoring scheme of status, changes and trends in forest ecosystems left to spontaneous development in the Šumava/Bohemian Forest National Park has been also implementing. Using NatureOnline link, it is possible to see the updated outputs of the transboundary telemetry project on the Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) and the Eurasian Lynx (Lynx lynx – www.rysovinastope.cz, www.jelenovinastope.cz respectively). Many other pro-jects have been carried out in close co-operation between the Šumava/Bohemian Forest and the Bayerische Wald/Bavarian Forest NP Administrations and together with research institutions and universities in the Czech Republic and Germany.
