Completing the Protected Landscape Area Network in the Czech Republic
On November 11, 2009, the Government of the Czech Republic approved the Amendment to the State Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection Programme of the Czech Republic (SNCLP CR).
The document supposes possible protection of the Doksy, Dolní Morava/Lower Moravia and Doupovské hory/Doupov Hills (including the Střední Poohří/Central Ohře River Basin) regions by declaring them as Protected Landscape Areas (PLAs). The aim to declare the Střední Poohří/Central Ohře River Basin and Dolní Morava/Lower Moravia PLAs was also a goal in the original SNCLP CR approved in 1998. The Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic (ANCLP CR) was charged with preparation of backgrounds for the establishing the PLAs. At the same, approving the priorities in declaring large-size Specially Protected Areas (SPAs) is an important step in the State Environmental Policy of the Czech Republic implementation in 2004–2010. They particularly include declaration of the European Communitys Natura 2000 network sites and functional integration of the Natura 2000 network with the existing SPA network across the country. In the 2008 Spatial Development Policy of the Czech Republic, which was approved in 2009, the Government of the Czech Republic imposes to the Minister of the Czech Republic to propose to the Government, in collaboration with other State Administration and Self-Government authorities establishing territorial reserves for completing and stabilizing the large-size SPA network aiming at strengthening ecological stability of the area. In the end of 2009, the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic charged the ANCLP CR with the task.
