Co-operation between the Šumava/Bohemian Forest and Bayerische Wald/Bavarian Forest National Parks

In 1999, the Memorandum on Bilateral Co-operation between the Šumava/Bohemian Forest and Bayerische Wald/Bavarian Forest National Park (NP) Administrations was signed.

Since that time, many joint projects have been implemented. In addition to joint research and monitoring projects and joint management of the most valuable parts of both the NPs, the Glass Ark joint project, implemented in 2003-2005, is really remarkable, presenting the mountains as one of the last areas harbouring untouched nature as well as unique cultural phenomenon. The Wild Heart of Europe is a project which tries to connect both the NPs, maintain their extraordinary natural values and to present the area to visitors. Both the Administrations have made efforts to be jointly awarded with the European Diploma of the Council of Europe, Transboundary Parks or with the PAN Parks certificate.
