Základní poslání Národního parku (NP) České Švýcarsko je dáno zákonem č. 161/1999. Pro nastavení správného systému managementových opatření, která povedou k naplnění cílů stanovených plánem péče, je důležité systematické monitorování jevů ve všech zájmových oblastech. Dlužno podotknout, že před samotným vznikem národního parku a v jeho počátcích nebylo získávání dat zcela systematické a důsledné.
For implementing appropriate management measures in the field, which will result in reaching the principal mission of the České Švýcarsko/Bohemian Switzerland National Park (NP) and other goals set up in its Management Plan it is necessary to start just from a detailed description of phenomena found on the NPs territory. The “Comprehensive Monitoring of the State of the Natural Environment on the České Švýcarsko/Bohemian Switzerland National Parks Territory” project sets out to gather data on the individual topics to be monitored, to analyze the obtained data and to apply them consequently in nature conservation management planning, aiming at improving or preserving the state of NPs ecosystems. The project was developed to monitor the individual topics in the NP. The topics include 1) geology, geochemistry, hydrology and hydrogeology; 2) geodynamic and climate phenomena; 3) biology and 4) tourism. In most cases, the project takes up surveillance and monitoring activities carried out in the past, but more attention is paid to the individual topics and emphasis is placed on comprehensiveness of the data gathered.
