Pešout P. & Šmídová L.: Public-law Agreements with Landowners Have Become a Reality

authors: Pavel Pešout, Lenka Šmídová

Since 2012, the Nature Conservancy Agency of the Czech Republic (NAC CR) has been making agreements with landowners and tenants on management measures and subsidies to be paid to them for such measures.

Full-value making public agreements with providing financial subsidies has been allowed only after issuing a series of legislative and executive decisions and the Supreme Court interpretation. Effective making of agreements on management measures is an important positive development in involving landowners and tenants in nature conservation and landscape protection and management. Twenty years, after passing the Act on Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection, the authors state that legislative and formal conditions allowing appropriate use of legal instruments for involving land managers in measures supporting mature conservation which were supposed by the above act have been established.
