The Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic (ANCLP CR) carries out communication, education and public awareness activities at the national, regional and local levels, using many ways. Field information systems, such as educational paths, information boards near the particular natural phenomena, explanatory seasonal texts, etc., are one of the most effective measures in this respect. Visitor centres which would present in an attractive way subjects and reasons for nature conservation and landscape protection just right in the particular areas have been still missing. Therefore, in 2008 a new programme “The House of Nature” was launched by the ANCLP CR. By 2015, a network of well-equipped multi-functional visitor centres shall be built in the most valuable and most often visited Specially Protected Areas across the country. The programme has been mostly financed from the European Community funds (the Operational Programme “Environment”), totalling CZK 700 million (approx. euros 26 million).
