Pavlíčko A.: Whos Afraid of (Pseudo)scorpions?

In the Czech Republic, approx. 38 pseudocorpion (Pseudoscorpions) species belonging to seven families occur at present. Big scorpions, of which some have a venomous stinger, do not permanently live in the Czech Republic.
Only exceptionally, they can be found in countrys warm regions, where they were non-intentionally introduced. The regions in the Czech Republic, inhabited by the pseudoscorpions and well studied in this respect, include Lower Vltava River Basin, Prague, Třeboň Basin Protected Landscape Area (PLA), Podyjí/Thaya River Basin National Park, Litovelské Pomoraví/Litovel Moravia River Basin PLA and Břeclav region. Pursuant to European Unions Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora, commonly known as the Habitats Directive, and to Act No. 114/1992 Gazette on Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection, as amended later, its Article 4, letter f) nsmely, the Czech Republic should report on the only pseudoscorpion species living in tree hollows, namely on Anthrenochernes stellaeto the European Commission. Moreover, the inconspicuous species is rare because of continuing loss of its preferred habitats. In addition, generally, there is lack of the data on pseudoscorpion distribution and numbers from the Czech Republic. The author also advices how the pseudoscorpions can be found in the wild and how their distribution should be mapped. Submitting the data on pseudoscorpion occurrence in the Czech Republic to the Nature Conservancy Species Occurrence Finding Database, managed by the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic, through the portal http://www.ochranaprirody.cz/ would be very much appreciated.
