Zoo Praha pomáhá chránit (nejen) gorily nížinné
In the article, Miroslav Bobek, the Prague Zoo Director describes activities conducted by the zoological garden in Central Africa aiming at Western lowland gorilla protection and tropical rainforest conservation.
For some years, the zoo has been providing Dja UNESCO Biosphere Reserve rangers with equipment. Moreover, it has been trying to contribute to building a non-predatory relationship with nature in inhabitants of the forest villages and to raising awareness of its importance among them. Thus, the special attention has been paid to schoolchildren. Books and other educational materials are distributed among them and the project The Wandering Bus has been also aiming at them. The special bus takes pupils from the forest villages in the vicinity of the Dja Biosphere Reserve on excursions to the wildlife rescue stations at Limbe or Mefou not only to closely watch gorillas and participate in an educational programme, but also to acquire unforgettable experience during the trip lasting some days. It is supposed that the Wandering Bus will be in operation at least four years. At present, other educational activities have been under preparation.
